Golf cart madness

The harmless looking vehicle proceeded slowly down the street. I could not help but notice that the vehicle had no tail lights. Further, it had no headlights, no turn signals, no seat belts and no doors. It was evident that the vehicle was not licensed for the street.

The four occupants waved. They were pre-teens having the time of their lives. It all looked so innocent as they drove their golf cart.

This is quite a familiar scene on the streets from Rex Allen's to the golf course.

Possible Abilene Reporter-News headline of the future: "Abilene youth dies in tragic golf cart mishap."

Who was to blame? Was it the parents who allowed the under-aged children to drive a vehicle on the street when it was not designed for that purpose? Was it the driver who came around the corner and did not see them in time? Was it a tolerant policy of the city to look the other way? Should the residents of the area have spoken up and called attention to this dangerous practice?

Yes, it may be all of these.

Fight Darth Vader

Will Texans really elect Darth Vader as attorney general? It sure seems possible, as Jim Mattox has a slim lead in the polls despite being indicted during his last term as attorney general.

Ever wonder how people like Bill Clinton get elected? Just watch the race for attorney general.

It's happening right before our eyes.

If you want to do something about people like Clinton and Mattox, call the Republican Party today at 672-4077. Please volunteer now. We need workers for just the next four weeks.

Thousands of people in our area do volunteer work for good causes every day. Over the next month there is no better cause to work for than assuring honesty and integrity in our government.

If we don't work now, Darth Vader will be the chief law enforcement officer in Texas.

The Ragin' Cajun

These many recent letters to the editor rationalizing Clinton's adultery, obstruction of justice and perjury in a legal proceeding sound so much like Ragin' Cajun James Carville that I wonder if he has sent marching orders to his legions.

Perhaps a few of the authors do not know who Carville is. They surely have gotten his message in some way.

Carville is a rather bizarre political operative who relentlessly attacks anyone and everyone brazen enough to question anything about Bill and Hillary Clinton. He has been referred to as Hillary's flying monkey. Like all talking heads supporting the Clinton administration, he has repeated lies ( perhaps unknowingly originally) for the Clinton's. Now that Clinton has admitted that he lied, Carville is still slandering opponents.

From one bizarre political operative to another, Ross Perot has denounced Clinton's behavior and is heading up a petition drive to encourage him to resign.

I happen to credit Perot for electing this president, considering Perot's erratic campaign in 1992. Some will say he was not a factor. At any rate, Ross Perot is right on this issue and should be supported.

In the Lewinsky matter alone, the tentacles of lawlessness are long. We may yet be informed of many other areas where this administration has seriously jeopardized our national security illegally and knowingly.
