Informed candidate

I recently spent an hour or so visiting with Lesa Crosswhite discussing county government in general and her candidacy for Taylor County treasurer.

I was surprised to learn she has already studied the Texas statutes and manuals on the duties and responsibilities of that office and knows how it must operate in serving both state and county governments.

It was pleasing to learn she is aware that timely and accurate submission of financial reports and collections to the state can earn Taylor County substantial funds.

That is how to make the taxpayer's money work for the taxpayer, and we taxpayers can appreciate that.

We are fortunate to have a person with her qualifications and enthusiasm running for that office, and I urge the voters of Taylor County to cast their ballots for Lesa Crosswhite for county treasurer.

Station reception

KIDZ-TV (the FOX Network) is a great example of West Texas customer service.

There is a move under way by local TV stations to disconnect rural customers' network feeds, claiming we can receive their signal.

Most of us would not have spent the money to purchase our equipment if we could receive local programming.

After calling Phil Gramm's office in Washington, I was told to write the local stations explaining I could not receive their signal. Almost immediately KIDZ sent the station manager out to check our signal, thinking we surely could get reception as we were in sight of a tower.

However, upon discovering we could not, they willingly signed a waiver. This is in sharp contrast to another station, which I understand is not locally owned and which made no effort to find out if we could get their signal before sending us a curt form letter denying our request.

Thank you KIDZ for treating us like valued customers and not annoying citizens.

Injustice was done

In reference to Jim Creel's Oct. 8 letter to the editor concerning the recent Big Country High School Band Marching Festival, I too feel that an injustice was done in the judgment of Abilene High's Band and is a slap in the face to not only Paul Walker, but to all those band members who have worked so hard preceding the festival.

And all the hard work was obvious in that they did perform superbly. A I would have been appropriate.

Izzard keeps word

Three years ago when our boss, Dr. Rudy Izzard, decided to run for Congress, he sat us down for a meeting. Dr. Izzard told us that no matter what, he would take care of his patients and his office staff.

Dr. Izzard has kept his word. Despite the demands of the campaign, Dr. Izzard has continued to treat his patients with skill and compassion. And he has met his financial obligations to his employees.

Many times, Dr. Izzard has put in a full day at the dental office, then traveled to campaign functions or worked at his campaign office late into the night.

Rudy Izzard has proven that he is a tireless worker and a man of his word. These are qualities that make him an outstanding congressman.
