Aviators appreciated

Isn't teamwork great? I so greatly appreciate the support the Abilene Aviators gave the public schools by issuing certificates, good for free admission to either of the two Aviators' games last week, to students who made the "A-B" Honor Roll.

I was excited to hear of the huge turnout for Thursday night's game, of which a vast majority, I assume, was due to the certificates given out to our school's students. It is wonderful that the support that was given to our schools was, in turn, given back through the sellout.

Many of our children were wearing Aviators merchandise and carrying around programs Friday. It is hoped that his helped to offset the expense to provide these children with such an exciting reward.

I personally appreciate the mission of the Abilene Aviators, and I wish them great success. They are a welcome addition to our city.

In regards to the issue of alcohol sales at the games, a member of the Aviators office staff told me the Aviators sell hockey, not alcohol. I appreciate their stance on this issue.

A good Samaritan

On Friday, Sept. 25, about 3 p.m. as we were on our way to Fort Worth, my husband and I had a flat about three miles past Abilene on I-20.

A young Abilene man on his way to the Rio Grande Valley stopped to assist us. Our spare tire was low, so this man, who needed to be on his journey, followed us back into Abilene to a Wal-Mart store so we could buy some new tires. He would not accept any payment for his trouble. Instead, he asked if we needed cash to pay for a new tire. We failed to get his name.

In hopes that our Good Samaritan sees this, we thank him for his kindness and concern for strangers in need. May God bless him each and every day.

Supporting kings

I earn my tax dollars in the domestic oil and gas industry. I presume some of them are included in the estimated $1 billion being spent by the military ensuring that the kings of Saudi Arabia and Kuwait can assure the American public of cheap oil.

It is difficult to compete commercially with monarchies supported by my taxes.
