Needs of seniors
I'd like to congratulate the city of Abilene for their wonderful love and treatment of our senior citizens here in Abilene.
I drove a senior citizens bus for the city for more than five years, picking up senior citizens and taking them to the center and then taking them home, usually after dinner. Also to about six different functions during the year. Also grocery shopping about every other week.
What I heard most from them was, "I don't know what I would do without the center. I would be dead in six months staying home and looking at four walls."
I also was amazed at the caliber of city employees at the center. They are all very efficient, from Walter Graham on down. Their only thoughts were of the senior citizens.
Now the only thing wrong is the crowded conditions, especially at the Rose Center, and I hope the citizens of Abilene will vote to build the seniors a new center, which is surely needed.

Potosi sincerity
I am taking this opportunity to let the people of Taylor County and the surrounding area know what nice ladies represent the Potosi Community Center.
Recently I attended the graveside services of Parthenia Parker at the Potosi Cemetery. Even though there are a number of Parker relatives buried there, none of the Parker family lives in or around Potosi now or in the past.
A representative of this community came to the Parker family at the gravesite and extended an invitation for the family and friends to gather at the center for lunch. These lovely ladies served sandwiches, chips, drinks and dessert for this group.
I think this is one of the nicest things I have witnessed in a very long time. Where else would you find this type of warmth and hospitality except in a small community deep in the heart of Texas?
Ladies, again we say thanks.
