A 'Nobel' occasion
McMurry University kicks off a new lecture program today in a notable manner, with Dr. Stanley Cohen, 1986 Nobel Prize winner in medicine and a distinguished professor at the Vanderbilt University School of Medicine, headlining the first Nobel Laureate Lecture.
Joining Cohen at Radford Auditorium for the "Medical Marvels: From Cause to Cure" conference are two other nationally recognized medical scientists, Dr. R. Max Wynn, a 1980 McMurry graduate and professor in the Department of Internal Medicine at the University of Texas Southwestern Medical School, and Dr. Lemuel A. Moye, a physician and bio-statistician at the University of Texas School of Public Health.
Wynn will speak at 9:30 a.m. on "Studying Inherited Diseases." Moye will follow at 11 a.m., speaking on "Bringing New Products to the People." All three will join in a 1:15 p.m. panel discussion, "What Lies on Medicine's Horizon." Concluding the remarkable day at 7 p.m. will be Cohen's lecture, "Along the Growth Factor Trail."
The entire day of talks and discussions is free and open to the public.
An occasion such as this demonstrates how Abilene's universities can enrich lives throughout the local community, and McMurry is to be congratulated for arranging so talented a field of speakers to address such timely issues.
