Don't forget to register
Texas' primary elections are coming up soon -- too soon, but they're still coming. And to vote in those March 10 elections, you need to be registered by Feb. 9, which is two weeks from today.
With primaries pushed up so far ahead of the November general election, the risk is that only the die-hard party faithful will bother to participate in the March selection, thus increasing the likelihood that candidates presented to the less partisan majority of voters will be more conservative or more liberal than many of us care to support. That's the dilemma in which Texans have often found themselves in the past few election year cycles.
The best way to choose good candidates for November is for more people to vote in the primaries. And registering at the Taylor County courthouse is easy -- as long as you do it before Feb. 9.
