Southern Hills minister to join ACU faculty

By LORETTA FULTON / Abilene Reporter-News

Robert Oglesby, who has been family minister at Southern Hills Church of Christ for 14 years, is joining the Abilene Christian University faculty June 1.

Oglesby will still serve part-time at Southern Hills until church leaders decide whether to replace him with a full-time person.

"We plan to stay here and be real active at this church," he said.

Oglesby, who holds bachelor's and master's degrees from ACU, has worked as an adjunct professor there for 10 years.

In his full-time position, Oglesby will be director of the youth and family ministry department and director of the Center for Adolescent Studies.

"My name kept coming to the top of the list, and I kept thinking they would find someone else," Oglesby said.

However, that didn't happen, and Oglesby accepted the position. A native of Breckenridge, Oglesby moved at age 4 with his family to Dallas. His father, Robert, has been minister at Waterview Church of Christ there for 35 years.

The elder Oglesby is on the board of trustees at ACU and has a room named for him in the Biblical Studies Building.

"They all think I own the room," the younger Oglesby said, since it bears his name, too.
