Moments of Grace

For 20 years, I had been an agnostic, rejecting Christianity as unreasonable. Then the grace of God opened up a new path to me.

The God I found was not buried in any ancient manuscript but was right here, right now, in everyday life, and moved through everything in the universe, including me.

From my new perspective, the feel of the sun on my skin became the kiss of God, the feel of the wind in my hair became the caress of God, and the morning fog became the breath of God made visible.

I had been reading a book on Daoism that talked about Chi, the life force, being the essence of God that moves through everything. One night as I meditated on the presence of the Divine Oneness in the light of the full moon, I could feel God in the air around me.

Earlier I had been thinking that I would like to wear my entry key from work around my neck on a chain long enough to allow me to use it without taking it off, but it would never occur to me to pray for something so simple.

As I was finishing the moon meditation, I saw something glistening in the moonlight at my feet. It was a chain exactly like the one I had pictured.

Perhaps it was only coincidence, but I felt as if God were responding to me by saying, "I'm here, and I know even your simplest, unspoken desires."
