Anson FFA Chapter celebrates 50 years today
By J.T. SMITH / Farm Editor
ANSON - The Anson FFA Chapter and Anson High School will have
an open house at 6:30 p.m. today to celebrate the 50th anniversary
of the Anson FFA.
The celebration will be in the Anson High agriscience department
building.
The Anson Future Farmers of America chapter began in 1947.
Larry Dooley was Anson vocational agriculture teacher when
the chapter received its charter.
Dwade King, current Jones County district attorney, was the
first Anson FFA president in 1947. Both Dooley and King will take
part in today's ceremony.
J.F. Dozier, who taught ag at Anson High for 17 years, and
Gaylon Harris, who was an ag teacher for 24 years, plan to attend
the ceremony along with Kerry Fortune, also a former Anson teacher
who is now executive director of Ben Richey Boys Ranch in Abilene.
The "Anson Friends of the FFA" is preparing a free
hamburger supper for all those in attendance, said Charlie Black,
Anson agriscience teacher.
"We encourage those who want to support these youngsters
to become members of the Friends of the FFA," said Donnie
Kiker, fellow agriscience teacher.
All former FFA members and friends are encouraged to come by
and enjoy a hamburger and fellowship, Kiker said.
