Many cattle and novelty items at Cattlemen's
Round-Up today

As of Monday evening, about 100 cattle had arrived or been
pledged for today's 38th Annual Cattlemen's Round-Up for Rehab.
The fall sale is 1 p.m. at Abilene Livestock Auction.
A traditional cornbread and bean lunch will be served beginning
at 11:30 a.m. at the Rehab Chuckwagon on the auction grounds.
Abilene rancher Mike Alexander, Big Country general chairman
of Cattlemen's Round-Up, emphasized that both rural and urban
folks are welcome. Although many people may not have a place to
keep a cow, many novelty items will go through the auction ring.
And cash donations are always welcome.
Alexander said a "zedonkey" is scheduled to make
an appearance. Don't look for it in your Webster's Dictionary,
but Alexander said the critter looks somewhat "like a small
donkey with stripes."
Each year the West Texas Rehabilitation Center serves 17,000
individuals from the Southwest, including those served by therapists
who travel to public schools, nursing homes, and rural hospitals
throughout the region.
Patients are admitted upon referral by a physician or approved
agency or institution. No one is denied treatment because he or
she can't pay.
Since the first cattle were penned for the Rehab in 1960, the
fall Cattlemen's Round-Up has been a crucial part of the center's
operations.
Danny Isbell, veteran Rehab field man, was still getting calls
Monday evening from cattlemen wanting to make donations. Isbell
adds that there also will be several horses in today's sale.
