8 new chamber directors named
Eight new members were named Wednesday to the board of directors
of the Abilene Chamber of Commerce.
Scheduled to begin three-year terms Oct. 1 are:
-- Jay Gibson, Galbraith Electric.
-- Woody Gilliland, Abilene Regional Medical Center.
-- Gayle Gray, First Southwest Insurance.
-- Homer Hillis, Friendze Stores Inc.
-- Dan Huggins, Newman Outdoor Advertising.
-- Barbara MacArthur, Abilene Cardiothoracic & Vascular
Surgery.
-- Ed Patton, E.N. Patton Oil Co.
-- Reuben Reveles, TCI Cablevision of Abilene.
The directors were approved at the monthly board meeting of
the chamber.
In other business:
-- President Charlie Dromgoole said renovation of new chamber
offices at North 2nd and Cypress is on schedule for a mid-September
opening.
"It will be a first-class facility all the way,"
Dromgoole said. "We've already got the offices framed out
and the conduits run." The building was built in 1888, he
said.
-- The chamber has gained 19 members for a total of 1,253,
said Steve Ellinger of the Member Services Council.
-- The 80-page community magazine, Abilene '97, was presented
to board members by Michelle Morris of the Reporter-News.
-- Dr. Jesse Fletcher of the Military Affairs Committee reported
good results from last week's trip to Washington and Scott Air
Force Base, Ill.
"We were reassured at every point," Fletcher said,
referring to the future of Dyess Air Force Base.
