Business Expo '97 opens doors Wednesday
Business Expo '97, the local trade show sponsored by the Abilene
Chamber of Commerce and Abilene Business Council, will open its
doors at 10 a.m. Wednesday at the Abilene Civic Center.
A record 214 exhibit booths will show off the wares and services
of local companies. They will fill the Exhibit Hall, Foyer and
Conference Center. Exhibits will remain open until 7 p.m.
Shortly after 5 p.m. in the Exhibit Hall, the "Small Business
Person of the Year" will be named. Business After Hours,
sponsored by First National Bank of Baird-Clyde-Abilene and Briarstone
Manor, will be from 5:30-7 p.m.
Sonic stock falls
Sonic Corp. stock tumbled 35 percent Monday after the drive-in
restaurant owner and franchiser said it expects second-quarter
earnings to be below Wall Street's expectations.
Sonic, based in Oklahoma City, blamed delays in opening new
drive-ins. The company also said existing drive-ins in new markets
are taking longer than forecast to reach sales and profit goals.
Sonic said it expects earnings for the three months ended Feb.
28 to be 10 percent higher than the 21 cents a share posted a
year ago, which would be about 23 cents a share. Sonic's net income
in the year-ago period was $2.8 million on revenue of $30.8 million.
Analysts surveyed by First Call Inc. had forecast earnings
of about 27 cents a share for the most recent period.
Sonic stock fell $7.12-1/2 to close at $13.12-1/2 a share on
the Nasdaq Stock Market.
