Bank sale completed

By Doug Williamson / Abilene Reporter-News

First Financial Bankshares has completed its purchase of Texas Commerce Bank of San Angelo.

Officials of the Abilene-based bank holding company announced Thursday that it has consolidated the resources of its affiliate bank (Southwest Bank in San Angelo) with the $150-million assets acquired from Texas Commerce.

The new bank has been rechartered as San Angelo National Bank. Customer services will continue to be offered at three banking locations.

Consolidated assets total $255 million with deposits of $235 million and shareholders' equity of $20 million.

The transaction brings assets for the holding company to more than $1.4 billion. The corporation now has eight banks -- First National Bank of Abilene, First National Bank in Cleburne, Eastland National Bank, Hereford State Bank, San Angelo National Bank, Stephenville Bank & Trust Co., First National Bank in Sweetwater and Weatherford National Bank.

Shares of First Financial Bankshares are traded on the NASDAQ National Market Exchange.

ARMC hosting nurse aide training

Abilene Regional Medical Center is working with Central Texas Commercial College in Brownwood to bring a certified nurse aide training program to Abilene.

The 80-hour course will be held at the ARMC Resource Center, 6150 David M. Collins Blvd., beginning Oct. 6. Two sets of classes -- one daytime and one evening -- are scheduled. One will be from 8 a.m.-2 p.m. and the other from 4-9:30 p.m.

Instructors from the school will be at the ARMC Resource Center today and Tuesday from noon-6 p.m. Interested people may ask questions, fill out paperwork and apply for financial aid at that time.

A student, taking a full class load, should complete the work in three weeks.

Kathy Wilson, B.S.N., R.D. and ARMC education coordinator, said this is a beginning place for people who are interested in getting into the health-care field.

All registration, financing and tuition payments are handled through CTCC. For more information, contact Martha Day, (800) 889-2822.
