New business in town
Relative Cuts and Tans has opened at 3374 Rebecca Lane.
Owned by Tim and Loy Akens, the firm offers a full line of
hair management services. It features hair cuts for men, women
and children for $4.95 and Matrix perms starting at $22.95.
Tim, a licensed cosmetology instructor, also is in the construction
business. Loy recently retired after 15 years in the legal field.
Trends in diabetes management workshop
Health care professionals in the Big Country may gain continuing
education hours by attending "Trends in Diabetes Management
'97" on Nov. 7.
The workshop, running from 8:25 a.m.-4:30 p.m., is for nurses,
registered dietitians and dietetic technicians. Exhibits open
and registration begins at 7:45 a.m. in the McGlothlin Campus
Center at Abilene Christian University.
Speakers will include an endocrinologist, nurse educators,
certified diabetes educator, nutrition specialist and pharmacist.
Six CPE hours have been approved by the Commission on Dietetic
Registration and 7.5 hours of continuing nursing education contact
hours have been requested.
Registration is $60 for professionals and $30 for students.

City inspector on worldwide committee
David Sartor, plumbing and mechanical inspector for the City
of Abilene, has been appointed to a one-year term on the nine-member
International Plumbing Code Committee by the board of directors
of the International Conference of Building Officials.
Sartor, an inspector for the city for five years, is a leader
in state inspecting circles. He has participated in code change
sessions in St. Louis, as well as a review of codes on the local
and state levels.
