Some holiday sites and a few other interesting
places to visit
By Doug Williamson / Abilene Reporter-News
With the holiday season upon us, we look at some enjoyable
sites on our trek through the Internet.
-- What would the holidays be without the music. You can listen
to continuous Christmas music at http://www.radio.audionet.com/radio/special(underscore)broadcast/XMAS/.
-- If you want to sing along, find many of the religious lyrics
at http://www.geocities.com/Athens/3680/alphxmas.htm/.
-- If you want Christmas reading, experience the illustrated
"A Christmas Carol" by Charles Dickens at one of the
longest web addresses I've ever seen. It is at http://etext.lib.virginia.edu/cgibin/browse-mixed?id=DicChris&tag=public&images=images/modeng&data=/lv1/Archive/eng-parsed/.
(Wow!)
-- Moms and Dads should check out Parent Soup at http://www.parentsoup.com/.
The site is a turn-key guide for parents -- no matter the age
of their children. Parents may chat with other parents, check
in with experts, find fun and games and discover a variety of
resources. I've started stopping by this webpage every day.
-- If you have been around computers for years, you'll enjoy
http://www.pbs.org/nerds/. The Public Broadcasting site has the
history of the computer. My favorite room is "Can You Guess
the Computer?" game.
-- Would you like to go to New York City today? You may avoid
the cold and the cost by visiting the Bronx Zoo at http://www.bronxzoo.com/.
A few of the exhibits are featured, including an intriguing one
on the one-inch-long Poison Dart Frog.
-- "Through the Eyes of a Child" is a photographic
exhibition by children, ages 5-16. A dozen professional photographers
worked with the kids, and the website has some wonderful pictures.
You'll find it at http://www.eyesofachild.com/.
-- I'll be in line this weekend for James Bond's latest, "Tomorrow
Never Dies." The movie's official site is http://www.tomorrowneverdies.com/.
(What an innovative address.)
