February home sales drop to $4 million

Abilene home sales declined in February, according to the Abilene Board of Realtors.

Sixty-three homes were sold for $4,056,708 during the month - down from 70 homes and $5,249,975 in February 1996.

"Rainy weather in February took its toll on housing sales, down from 81 in January," said Marv Gerard of the Board of Realtors.

Gerard said the housing inventory increased to 586 - nearly a 20 percent gain from February 1996.

The average home sale price last month was $64,392, a decrease from $74,999 the previous February.

Twenty-three homes were conventionally financed while 13 buyers obtained VA assistance and 12 secured FHA loans, Gerard reported. Another 12 buyers paid cash while one assumed the note.
