Forage tour planned for Comanche

A forage tour is 8 a.m. June 3 at the George Bingham Farm five miles north of Comanche on Highway 2247.

After gathering at the Bingham Farm, the group will leave for the tour at 8:30 a.m. and travel to stops up Highway 2247 to Highway 587, and then on to De Leon to eat lunch at Farley Farm Supply.

The tour is worth two hours of continuing education units. Forage stops are geared to the interests of area livestock producers.

These include aeration plots of coastal bermudagrass, pasture weed control, greenbriar control, and a fourth stop to see ways to combat fire ants.

A fifth stop examines treatments applied in March for control of winter annual grasses. To pre-register, call (915) 356-2539.

Texas Limousin Field Day at Maryneal

The Texas Limousin Field Day and Heifer Show is June 14-15 on the Stewman Ranch at Maryneal.

Judging contests will be held the first day, with registration starting at about 8 a.m. Meanwhile, the Limousin Heifer Show is 8 a.m. June 15.

Scott Anderson is new Brown County ag agent

Scott Alan Anderson is the new Brown County Extension agent for agriculture and will begin his job June 2 in Brownwood.

He comes to Brownwood from Marfa where he has been Presidio County ag agent since September 1991. The new ag agent began his Extension Service career in 1989 as the Anderson County agent. He as ranch assistant for Granada Land and Cattle Company at Wheelock prior to joining the Extension Service. His duties included general care of 4,000 registered Brangus cattle.

American Meat Goat Association to hold conference

Meat goat production in Texas continues to grow.

The American Meat Goat Association (AMGA) will hold its Sixth Annual Summer Conference and Premier Meat Gopat Buck and Dole Sale June 20-21.

Activities start with a 4-6 p.m. membership meeting June 20 Coke Stevens Memorial Building on Highway 83N in Junction. A social mixer with music and buffet follows at 7 p.m.

Major activities are 9 a.m. until 12:30 p.m. in that facility on June 21, with the sale to follow at 2:30 p.m. at the Hill Country Fairgrounds.

Registration is $20 per person or $30 per couple, with no charge for children under 18. For more, call Marvin Crabtree at (915) 446-3921.
