Texas Country Clean Up Crew in Munday on Wednesday

By J.T. SMITH / Farm Editor

Need to get rid of some old pesticide containers?

The Texas Country Clean Up Crew will make a stop in Munday from 8 a.m. until noon Wednesday.

Collection will be at the Farmers Grain Co-op in Munday at 140 East Dallas Street. (That's just two blocks south of the U.S. Highway 277 and 222 intersection).

The Texas Country Clean Up Program is coordinated by the Texas Natural Resource Conservation Commission.

Tomorrow's Country Clean Up will accept empty plastic pesticide containers that have been either tripled rinsed or high-pressure rinsed. Used motor oil and oil filters, lead acid batteries, and used tires (not including tractor tires or semi-truck tires) also will be accepted.

This annual program is free to everyone. It is an excellent chance to dispose of some of these items properly.

For more information, you may contact the Knox County Extension Service office in Benjamin at (940) 454-2651.

Ranch Roundup accolades

The 17th Texas Ranch Roundup in Wichita Falls featured some of the top ranches in Texas.

Taking "Braggin' Rights" home as Winning Ranch Team was the historic Pitchfork Ranch of Guthrie with a total of 101 points.

Johnson Ranches of Amarillo was second with 92 points. Nail Ranch of Albany was third with 81 points.

Nail Ranch won Top Horse honors with "Blue River."

R.A. Brown Ranch of Throckmorton took first place in the cooking division for meat.

In the talent competition, the Nail Ranch won first place in painting.

A new event to the Roundup this year was the Ranch Horse Competition with Mike Seago of Burnett Ranches at Guthrie winning the senior division with "Festus," and Tom Moorhouse of the Moorhouse Ranch at Benjamin winning the junior division with "Cougar."
