Stewman Ranch "Production Sale" is
a biggie at Maryneal
By J.T. SMITH / Farm Editor
It has just been a couple of months since the Stewman Ranch
of Maryneal swept both top honors at the Limousin Show of the
West Texas Fair in Abilene.
The Stewman Ranch exhibited the Grand Champion Bull with "OTSS
Diesel" as well as the Grand Champion Female with "OTSS
Gretchen."
Now you have a chance to get in on the right genetics at the
Stewman Ranch Production Sale slated for 1 p.m. Nov. 8 at the
Maryneal ranch. Tom and Helen Stewman will be offering 80 big,
powerful Limousin bulls of breeding age. In addition, 30 cow-calf
pairs and 15 yearling heifers will be auctioned.
From Sweetwater, just take Texas Highway 70 south for 12 miles,
then turn west at the Maryneal sign and travel 10 miles. After
crossing the railroad tracks in Maryneal, immediately take the
paved road south and follow the signs for about six miles to the
ranch.
Or from Roscoe, take FM 608 for about 12 miles, then the Cemetery
Road for a mile and then look for the sign to Stewman Ranch and
travel west to headquarters.

This farm writer knows that many of you are accustomed to Stewman
Ranch having had a Sunday sale for many years (usually was the
Sunday that daylight saving time ends).
But this year the Stewmans have switched to a November sale
and also have changed to a Saturday with the Nov. 8 date.
As they demonstrate time after time, the Stewman operation
is a consistent champion when it comes to Limousin cattle.
Brad Stuart honored for top cattle
Speaking of top notch cattle, Brad Stuart of Roby has been
recognized by the American Hereford Assocation for producing three
cows named to the "Dams of Distinction" list.
"These are the most efficient cows in the Hereford breed,"
said Dr. John Hough, AHA's director of research and performance.
"They've met the strictest requirements for early calving,
reproductive efficiency, calving intervals of no greater than
one year and weight rations in the top end of the breeder's herd."
Only 3,646 cows in the nation were named to the prestigious
list this year.
A complete list of the cows and the 941 Hereford breeders who
produced them were published in the November 1997 issue of <I>Hereford
World,<I> the breed's official publication.
