From history to zits
By Doug Williamson / Reporter-News
Another hodgepodge of Internet sites appeared on the new PC
this week.
From history to zits and from comets to New Zealand, you'll
find a real variety today.
-- Photography buffs will like the homepage of the New York
Institute of Photography (http://www.nyip.com/). It says it is
"for anyone who loves photography and wants to take better
photographs." The site is chockfull of tips, pictures, contests
and news.
-- What would happen if a comet hit the earth? Scientists at
the Sandia National Laboratories have worked hard to come up with
the answer. You can read the conclusions and see animation of
what it would be like at http://www.sandia.gov/1431/COMETw.html/.
-- Ready for a vacation? Really want to get away - far away?
I figure New Zealand is just about as far as you can go from the
Texas Midwest and still have your feet on terra firma. The New
Zealand Tourism Board has an excellent homepage at http://www.nztb.govt.nz/index.html/.
-- Zits - fact or fiction? Clearly commercial, the Clearsil
folks have an educational quiz about pimples at http://www.clearasil.com/cgi-bin/clearrand.pl/.
-- History fans, this site will knock your socks off. If you
are into the Civil War, http://serve.aeneas.net/ais.civwamin/
has the Civil War in miniature with a chronology, terminology,
other Civil War links, etc.
-- If you loved that site, you'll go bonkers over HyperHistory
Online, a time line of all world history (http://users.uniserve.com/(tilde)andreasn/).
You can find events, people and maps through history in decade-long
increments.
-- I liked Star Wars and Star Trek. A group of my cohorts at
the AR-N are true Trekkies and well past my realm of understanding.
For them, I found http://users.aol.com/ksc1/startrek.htm/. It
says it is "Star Trek Nexus - the ultimate guide to all things
Trek on the Net." I hope you not only understand all the
"stuff", but also enjoy it.
