Knox County to host Progressive Farmer safety
camp
Knox County will host a Progressive Farmer Farm Safety Day
Camp 9 a.m. until 4 p.m. May 10 at Munday High School.
The Progressive Farmer safety camp is being co-sponsored by
the Texas A&M Agricultural Extension Service in Knox County.
This popular camp teaches children to be aware of safety hazards
on the farm.
Deadline for registration is April 28.
The $10 pre-registration fee covers all camp activities, lunch,
refreshments, and a camp T-shirt.
On-site registration is $15. So you can save five bucks by
registering early.
For families with several children, there is a family discount
where only $25 will be charged for three or more youngsters in
the camp.
So that each child can get personal attention, attendance will
be limited to 150 safety campers from third- through eighth-graders.
Hands-on demonstrations will cover such vital topics as fire
safety, tractor and equipment safety, electrical safety, basic
first aid, chemical protection, PTO/Cotton Stripper Entanglement,
grain explosions, and shop equipment.
The Progressive Farmer camp offers a much-needed program for
youngsters on the farm.
"We knew that farm families were concerned about safety,
but even we were surprised by the overwhelming response to our
camps," says Jack Odle, Progressive Farmer editor. "After
holding 16 days of camps in 1995 and 76 in 1996, we now have 150
scheduled for 1997."
Jack says the sponsors of the camps are just as enthusiastic
as the PF readers.
"Companies like Shell Lubricants, Farm Plan, Pioneer,
DuPont, AbCo, Gold Kist, Smith & Wesson, and Mossberg have
made it possible for us to reach a lot of kids," he notes.
"Our goal is to prevent dangerous accidents altogether."
This summer, Progressive Farmer will hold camps in 31 states.
Progressive Farmer magazine is published by Southern Progress
Corp., which also publishes Southern Living, Southern Accents,
Cooking Light, Weight Watchers, and Coastal Living magazines,
as well as Oxmoor House books.
The company is based in Birmingham, Ala., and is the largest
lifestyle publisher in the nation.
