Lorrie Morgan wanted to marry Troy

(From Associated Press - 5/21/96)

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (AP) - Country singer Lorrie Morgan says she and Sen. Fred Thompson once talked about marriage, but before that she wanted to marry Dallas quarterback Troy Aikman "probably more than I've ever wanted anything in my life."

Morgan made the declaration during an interview with Phyllis George. The interview will be broadcast during the May 28 "Spotlight With Phyllis George" on TNN: The Nashville Network.

Morgan, 36, blamed tabloid newspapers for the demise of her relationship with Aikman about two years ago.

"You hear something in Dallas or you hear something in Nashville and you're not there to look at each other eye to eye. You call each other on the phone and you hear it, and right away you accuse the other one. And it tore our relationship up. It totally destroyed us," she said.

Morgan said her more recent relationship with Thompson, one of Tennessee's two Republican U.S. senators, "has been a wonderful thing in my life."

"And we had at one time talked about marriage. But I don't think that's going to happen for Fred and I," she said.

Morgan is known for hits including "Watch Me," "What Part of No" and "I Didn't Know My Own Strength."
