Corey,
In December, you posted a message on the GenForum regarding the father of
William Charles Reagan (b. Feb 21, 1842; d. 1924) husband of Frances "Fanny"
Honea. In it, you were seeking confirmation that the William Charles married
to Frances was indeed the son of Joseph Black Reagan and not the son of
his brother, Alexander Reagan. I just this week obtained documents (courtesy
of Carol Reagan) prepared in 1938 by Albert Franklin Reagan, youngest son
of William Charles Reagan and Susan Boswell, William's second wife (Fanny
died in 1874). In it, Albert traces what he knew of his ancestry "...Ahimaaz
Reagan was my great grandfather. No earlier record has been known among
my people and of my people than a pen written record I now have
of the births and deaths of the family of this great grandsire. A copy of
this record is found below:
AHIMAAZ REAGAN was born July 30, 1774. The place of his birth is not
recorded, but tradition has it as in Ireland. Rebecca
Black Reagan was born September 4, 1774. Place of birth unkonw. Their children,
Synthia Reagan, Sept. 14, 1795; James Reagan, Sept. 5, 1787; John B. Reagan,
May 8, 1800; Harrison Reagan, Oct. 25, 1802; Hugh C. Reagan, Feb. 10, 1805;
Charles Reagan, April 2, 1807; JOSEPH BLACK REAGAN. Children of Joseph Black
Reagan and Elizabeth "Betsey" Reagan were: WILLIAM CHARLES REAGAN,
Feb. 21, 1842, Bennett Cook Reagan, May 17, 1872-d. Sept. 24, 1927;
Betsy Reagan, May 18, 1811; Jane Reagan, April 26, 181?; Mary H. Reagan,
July 13, 181?; and Alexander Carmichael Black Reagan, Feb. 14, 1819.
Ahimaaz Reagan died Oct. 28, 1842.
This is all the family record contains. No date of marriages and no knowledge
at hand as to whom any of his children married, except my grandfather, Joseph
B. Reagan. According to my father (WILLIAM CHARLES REAGAN), the family first
settled in America and Tennessee. Later, they removed to Mississippi. From
Mississippi, my grandfather (JOSEPH BLACK REAGAN) moved to Texas, as did
some of his brothers. Charles Reagan came to Texas sometime in the 1830s
and was killed by the Indians at the present town of Alto. He was never
married. Joseph H. came to Texas in 1841. My father was born the following
year. Harrison Reagan moved to Texas a year or two after JOSEPH B. and he
was followed by Alexander C.B. in 1854."
Additionally, I obtained copies of photos of William Charles Reagan with
his second wife, Susan Boswell Reagan, mother of Albert Franklin Reagan.
They are all buried at Petersburg, Texas.
