Today's Obituaries (Aug. 26, 1997)

Richard Loza

Richard S. Loza, 51, of Abilene died Sunday at a local hospital.

A prayer service will be at 7 p.m. today at Elliott-Hamil Funeral Home chapel, 542 Hickory. Mass will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at St. Vincent Pallotti Catholic Church with the Rev. Joe Uecker officiating. Burial will be in Cedar Hill Cemetery.

Mr. Loza was born in Abilene, where he lived all his life. He was a tile mechanic for Central Flooring and a member of St. Vincent Pallotti Catholic Church.

Survivors include his wife, Lupe Loza of Abilene; one son, Richard Loza Jr. of Abilene; one daughter, Marcy Loza of Abilene; four brothers, Pete Ornelas of Bakersfield, Calif., Jose Guadalupe Zuniga of Los Angels, Calif., and Frank Loza and Tony Loza, both of Abilene; three sisters, Irene Flores and Anita Valencia, both of Abilene, and Eulalia Torres of Robert Lee; and four grandchildren.

Crawford Collier

Crawford Collier, 60, died Aug. 19 at a local hospital.

Services will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday at Ash Street Baptist Church with the Rev. Robert Giles officiating. Burial will be in Odd Fellows Cemetery, directed by Curtis-Starks Funeral Home, 542 E.N. 7th.

Mr. Collier was born in Bessemer, Ala., and had lived in Taylor County for a number of years. He was employed by Western Trailer and Equipment Co. and was a Baptist. He married Mary Medlock in 1957.

Survivors include his wife, of Abilene; four daughters, Ruby M. Collier of Chicago, Ill., Deborah Collier of Abilene, Debbie S. Hillerd of Farmington, N.M., and Demkia Nixon of Minneapolis, Minn.; four sons, Billy Ross of Grants, N.M., Andrew Collier of Waterloo, Iowa, Gary R. Collier of Las Cruces, N.M., and Crawford Collier III of Minneapolis; three brothers, Charlie Collier, Willie Collier and J.D. Collier, all of Chicago; two sisters, Mrs. Ollie Hall of Chicago and Lillie Chapman of Bessemer; 14 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

The family will be at the funeral home from 5-7 p.m. today.

Elbert Otto Garlington

LAFAYETTE, La. - Elbert Otto Garlington, father of two Anson residents, died Aug. 19 at his home.

Services were Thursday at Martin & Castille Funeral Home Chapel with the Revs. David Plunkett and Tracy King officiating. Burial was in Restlawn Memorial Cemetery in La Feria.

Mr. Garlington grew up in Mittie, La., and had lived in Lafayette for 30 years. He was retired after 20 years with Amoco Oil Co. and was a member and deacon at First Baptist Church of Scott, La. He was married to Gussie Green Garlington for 29 years.

Survivors include his wife, of Lafayette; one daughter, Peggy (Mrs. Bob) Eubanks of Anson; two sons, Robert Dale Garlington of Austin and Terry Deane Garlington of Anson; two sisters, Alice Young of Sugartown, La., and Bessie Johnson of Grant, La.; six grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

Memorials may be made to Hospice of Acadiana, P.O. Box 3467, Lafayette LA 70502.

Alma Alice Favor Culwell

KNOX CITY - Alma Alice Favor Culwell, 99, died Sunday at a Haskell hospital after a lengthy illness.

Graveside services will be at 11 a.m. today in Knox City Cemetery with the Rev. Dusty Garrison officiating, directed by Smith Funeral Home.

Mrs. Culwell was born in Navarro County and was a bookkeeper for Knox City Gin and Stamford Bank for many years. She was a member of First Christian Church.

Survivors include one son, Dr. Jerry Culwell of Palm Desert, Calif.; three granddaughters and four great-grandchildren.

Felton Alex Brashier

RANGER - Felton Alex Brashier, 50, of Palm Springs, Calif., died Sunday in California.

Private memorial services are planned, directed by Edwards Funeral Home.

Mr. Brashier was born in Ranger and graduated from Ranger High School in 1965. He attended Ranger College and Texas Tech University. He owned and operated a restaurant in California and was a member of Grace Cathedral Episcopal Church in San Francisco, Calif.

Survivors include his mother, Betty Brashier of Ranger; two brothers, Tommy Brashier of Waco and Richard Brashier of Overland Park, Kan.; two nieces and three nephews.

Memorials may be made to Pete Brashier Memorial Scholarship Fund at First Baptist Church in Ranger.

J.J. Spoto

J.J. Spoto, 64, of Abilene died Thursday at a local hospital. Services will be at 2 p.m. today at Allen-Korzenewski Funeral Home Chapel.

Orval Drew Southall

DUBLIN - Orval Drew Southall, 69, died Sunday at an Erath County hospital. Services will be at 3 p.m. today at Harrell Funeral Home Memorial Chapel.

Monez Neeper Scogin

SWEETWATER - Monez Neeper Scogin, 70, died Monday at her home. Services are pending with Cate-Spencer & Trent Funeral Home.

Jane (Mrs. Alton) Perrin

EASTLAND - Jane (Mrs. Alton) Perrin, 68, died Saturday at a local nursing home. Graveside services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday in Alameda Cemetery, directed by Edwards Funeral Home.

Mary Guernsey

ANSON - Mary R. Guernsey, 75, died Monday at a local hospital. Services are pending with Lawrence-Adams Funeral Home.

Jimmie Marie McCann

Jimmie Marie McCann, 77, died Monday at a local nursing home. Services are pending with Elliott-Hamil Funeral Home, 542 Hickory.
