Local church notes

Pioneer Drive Baptist Church Single Adult Ministry presents an area-wide Fall Round-up at 7 tonight in the Activities at the Church, 701 S. Pioneer.

Jeff Berry will provide music and the Love Co. from Hardin-Simmons University will present a drama. Danny's Bar-B-Que will serve dinner. Cost is $7. Call 692-7222 for ticket information.

ECUMENICAL GROUP

The Abilene Association of Congregations will hold its annual meeting at 6:30 p.m. Oct. 23 at First Christian Church. President James Zug, pastor of First Christian, will host the dinner. Barbecue will be served for $8 per person.

All representatives of this ecumenical organization are encouraged to attend. For additional information or to make a reservation, call Idi Mae Arey at 537-2437.

FARE THEE WELL

First Christian Church, 1420 S. 3rd, will host a reception for Van Glynn immediately following the morning worship Sunday. Glynn has been the organist for First Christian for more than 11 years, and has announced the conclusion of his ministry here for the end of September.

PICNIC TIME

Brookhollow Christian Church, 2310 S. Willis, will have an all-church picnic at 6:30 p.m. Sunday at Lytle Shores Auditorium. Drinks will be provided. Bring food to share.

SIGN LANGUAGE CLASS

First Baptist Church will offer a beginners' sign language class at 5 p.m. beginning Sunday. Classes will be held in Room 218 at the church, 1333 N. 3rd. Call 676-9020 for more information.

APPRECIATION SERVICE

An appreciation service for the Rev. Harry M. Gaston and his wife will be held at 3 p.m. Sunday at Mt. Zion Baptist Church, 520 State St.

The Rev. Kelvin Kelly of Mt. Zion Baptist Church in Brownwood will be guest speaker.

RIDGEMONT REVIVAL

A revival meeting will be held Sunday through Wednesday at Ridgemont Baptist Church, 4857 Buffalo Gap Road.

Heaven's Jubilee, a gospel quartet, will lead the service. Meeting times are 10:45 a.m. and 6:30 p.m. Sunday and 7 p.m. Monday through Wednesday.

HEALING SERVICE

A service of healing from The Book of Common Prayer will be held at St. Mark's Episcopal Church, 3150 Vogel, at 7 p.m. Wednesday.

The Rev. Kelly Schneider, rector, will conduct the service on the first Wednesday of each month. On other Wednesdays, Evening Prayer is read at 7.

JUBILEE SENIORS

The Jubilee Seniors, for people age 50 and older, will meet at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Fairmont United Methodist Church, 1101 Palm.

The Big Country National Gospel Quartet will entertain followed by a covered dish luncheon.

LIFE CHAIN

Local supporters will join pro-life groups nationwide Sunday, Oct. 5, is forming a life chain in opposition to abortion.

Locally, a praise service will be held under the water tower on Buffalo gap Road at 1:30 p.m. The chain will be formed from 2-3 p.m. from Robertson to Antilley Road.

All ages are invited to be a part of the chain by holding a sign for one hour.

MISSION FESTIVAL

Zion Lutheran Church-Missouri Synod, N. 19th and Briarwood, is having its Mission Festival Sunday.

Morning worship is at 9 a.m. A potluck lunch will be held at 11:20 a.m. after a Bible study class.

The Rev. Mark Pepoon of Dallas will be guest speaker. Call 698-2432 for more information.

SCOTLAND STUDY TOUR

Dr. Philip LeMasters, a McMurry University religion professor, will lead a study tour on Christianity to Scotland July 16-27, 1998.

The tour goes to Edinburgh, St. Andrews, Glasgow, Skye and Iona as well as to England.

University credit in religion is available. Call LeMasters at 691-6259 for more information.

INTERFAITH JOURNEY

A discussion of world religions continues at the Episcopal Church of the Heavenly Rest, 602 Meander, at 6:45 p.m. Wednesday.

The 10-week course covering five religions continues each Wednesday through Nov. 19. The public is invited.

On Wednesday the origins and basic tenets of Islam will be presented by the Rev. Roz Thomas, associate rector of Heavenly Rest. On the following Wednesday, Haywood Shakir Talib, a prison chaplain and Islamic preacher and leader, will speak on "I Am Muslim."

The sessions are preceded by a potluck supper at 6 p.m. in the parish hall.

SINGING VISITORS

The Senior Adult Choir from First Baptist Church of Pensacola, Fla. will sing in the morning worship service Sunday at Calvary Baptist Church, 1165 Minter Lane. A luncheon will follow.

HOUSE IN A WEEK

St. Paul, Aldersgate, and St. James United Methodist Churches and students from McMurry University will participate in Habitat for Humanity's Blitz Build beginning today at 1910 S. 5th. The house will be built in a week with work starting each day at 8 a.m.

SINGLES SHARE LUNCH

Singles at St. Paul United Methodist Church will share lunch together at Zentner's Daughter after the 10:55 a.m. worship service. Call 672-7814 for more information.

MISSIONS SPEAKER

Linda Hair, field representative from the General Board of Global Ministries, United Methodist Church, will present "An Evening in Brazil" on Sunday at St. James United Methodist Church, 1741 Sayles. The program will follow a 5 p.m. covered dish supper.

'EXPLOSION' SUNDAY, MONDAY

Redeeming Love Faith Fellowship Church, 5858 Highway 277 South, will host "An Explosion of God's Glory" Sunday and Monday.

Don Clowers, who has been in the ministry 39 years, will speak at 7 each night. Clowers has been a part of revivals with Rodney Howard Brown and Bob Nichols for the past four years.
