RECOVERING FROM DIVORCE?
Hillcrest Church of Christ will offer a free divorce recovery
workshop to the public from 6-8 p.m. Wednesdays beginning Oct.
15 at 650 E. Ambler.
The six-week workshop will offer sessions for divorced adults
and for their children ages 6-12 years. Child care will be available
for younger children of participants.
Adults in the workshop will discuss the video series "Rebuilding
the Castle That Has Come Down" by Bill Flanagan and read
the book <I>Growing Through Divorce<I> by Jim Smoke.
The children's group will have activities to build self-esteem
and help them understand the changes that divorce brings.
Children will meet from 6-6:50 p.m. and then attend the regular
Wednesday night Bible classes from 7-8 p.m.
Children should accompany their parents the first night of
the workshop.

BAPTIST CONVENTION VISITORS
Phil Lineberger and Jerold McBride, both former presidents
of the Baptist General Convention of Texas, will be at First Baptist

FALL REVIVAL
A fall revival will be held at Belmont Baptist Church, 2117
Palm, Sunday through Wednesday.
Heaven's Jubilee, a Southern gospel quartet and full ministry
team, will lead the revival. Services will be at 10:45 a.m. and
6:30 p.m. Sunday and 7 p.m. Monday through Wednesday.
On Sunday, a covered dish luncheon will be served at noon.

RUMMAGE SALE
The Women of St. Paul United Methodist Church will have a garage
sale from 8 a.m.-noon today at the church, N. 5th and Beech.
ESTATE PLANNING DISCUSSION
A panel discussion on estate planning and charitable giving
is scheduled from 5-6 p.m. Sunday in the chapel at First Baptist
Church. The panel will be composed of a certified public accountant,
a tax attorney and a representative from the Baptist Foundation
of Texas in Dallas. Charlie Black will be moderator. This is sponsored
by the First Baptist Estate Planning Committee.
SURVIVING AND THRIVING
"Terrific Teens: Surviving and Thriving During the Adolescent
Years" will be presented from 6:30-8 p.m. Oct. 15 and Oct.
22 at Aldersgate United Methodist Church. Ralp Kantor, nationally
recognized child care consultant, will be the presenter. The church
is located at 1741 Sayles.
12-STEP SPIRITUALITY
Pat Huber, a licensed professional counselor, will lead the
Spiritual 12-Step program Sunday at St. Mark's Episcopal Church,
3150 Vogel.
Huber conducts sessions once a month at the church. The adult
education class will be at 9:30 a.m. in the library. Visitors
are welcome.
YOM KIPPUR
A Yom Kippur service will be held at 9:30 a.m. today at Temple
Mizpah, 849 Chestnut. The service will reconvene at 4:30 p.m.
and Breaking the Fast will be observed at 6:30, hosted by the
Woman's Auxiliary of the temple.
ANTIOCH CME HOSTS MEETING
The National Lay Council Day Program will be held at 3 p.m.
Sunday at Antioch CME Church, 801 Plum.
Speaker will be the Rev. Irma Wilson of the Antioch church.
REVIVAL SERVICES
Heaven's Jubilee, Southern gospel quartet, will lead worship
services during a revival at Belmont Baptist Church, 2117 Palm,
Sunday through Wednesday.
Services will be held at 10:45 a.m. Sunday followed by a covered
dish lunch in the fellowship Hall. An evening service will be
held at 6:30 p.m. Sunday. Monday through Wednesday services will
be at 7 p.m. A sandwich supper in the fellowship hall will be
held at 6 p.m. Wednesday.
FAREWELL RECEPTION
Pioneer Drive Baptist Church will have a farewell reception
for George and Susan Gaston following the evening worship service
Sunday. This will be a time of appreciation for the Gastons and
for their ministry at the church. The church is located at 701
S. Pioneer.
PRESBYTERIAN HOMECOMING AND FAIR
First Central Presbyterian Church, 400 Orange, will celebrate
homecoming at noon Sunday. A fellowship feast, across the street
in the new activities building of First Christian Church, will
follow the 11 a.m. service.
The church has also scheduled a mission fair from 5:45-7:30
p.m. Wednesday at the church. Lynn Swinke of the Medical Benevolence
Foundation in Houston will speak on Haiti, site of a planned 1998
church mission trip.
INTERFAITH JOURNEY
The origins and basic tenets of Judaism will be discussed Wednesday
in the continuing Interfaith Journey at the Episcopal Church of
the Heavenly Rest, 602 Meander.
The Rev. Roz Thomas, associate rector, will speak on Judaism,
and the following Wednesday Rabbi Sherman Stein will discuss his
religion.
The session begins at 6:45 p.m., following a potluck supper
at 6. The series, which covers five major religions, continues
through Nov. 19. Call 677-2091 for more information.
FLU SHOTS
Flu shots will be given from 9:30-10:30 a.m. Sunday in the
craft area at St. Paul United Methodist Church. N. 5th and Beech.
Shots also will be given in the Wesley Friendship Hall on Wednesdays
Oct. 15 and 22.
CRYSTAL CATHEDRAL BROADCAST
Dr. Robert C. Barnes with Hardin-Simmons University will be
featured Sunday on Hour of Power, a television program broadcast
from Dr. Robert Schuller's Crystal Cathedral in California.
The program airs locally at 8 a.m. on ABC. Barnes is chairman
of the department of counseling and human development at HSU.
He also is serving his third term as president of the Viktor
Frankl Institute of Logotherapy. On Sunday's program, which was
videotaped last week, Barnes will present Schuller with the Statue
of Responsibility, the highest award given by the institute.
Frankl, a friend and mentor to Barnes, developed logotherapy,
a type of psychoanalysis which emphasizes finding meaning in one's
life despite the circumstances. Frankl, who was a prisoner in
concentration camps during World War II, died Sept. 2 in Vienna.
