Church happenings in Abilene

CROSSTOWN RENEWAL

Two Baptist churches will celebrate a Crosstown Renewal Oct. 26-29 by having joint worship sessions each evening.

On Sunday and Monday, Oct. 26-27, services will be at Immanuel Baptist Church, 1241 Cypress. On Tuesday and Wednesday, services will be at Elmwood Baptist, 2933 S. 7th.

The Sunday service will be at 6 p.m. and the weeknight services will begin at 7. The public is invited and a nursery will be provided.

"Crosstown Renewal, reaching hearts across Abilene, is a combined revival effort of two small Baptist churches with common needs and goals," said Ima Gene Hurst, Sunday School director at Immanuel.

Weekly prayer services have been held at each church leading up to the revival.

Evangelist for the services will be Truman Turk, director of missions for the Abilene Baptist Association. Fred McNab, minister of music at Pioneer Drive Baptist Church, will bring special music.

Elmwood Baptist Church opened at 3118 S. 3rd on March 15, 1931. Immanuel opened at N. 10th and Walnut in 1908.

BONE MARROW DRIVE

A bone marrow drive in memory of Karen Lanford is scheduled from 10 a.m.-4 p.m. today at St. Paul United Methodist Church's activity building on N. 5th and Orange.

Currently, there are about 3,000 patients in need of a bone marrow transplant. You could be the chance of a lifetime for someone in need.

SIMCHAS TORAH

Members of Temple Mizpah, 849 Chestnut, will celebrate Simchas Torah or the Feast of Rejoicing of the Law at 7:30 p.m. Friday.

The event concludes the annual 52 weekly scripture readings from the first five books of Moses. A new cycle of reading will begin after the feast.

GOLD CITY QUARTET

Heritage Baptist Church is sponsoring Gold City Quartet in concert at the Paramount Theater at 7 p.m. Friday.

Joining the quartet will be Heaven's Jubilee and the Calvin Wills Family Singers.

Tickets are on sale for $6.50 general admission and $10 reserved. They may be purchased at Bible Book Store, The Love Shop, Good News Book Store or Heritage Baptist Church. FALL REVIVAL

North Park Baptist Church, 1525 Anson Ave., will have its fall revival Sunday through Wednesday with Dr. Randy Davis, pastor of Olsen Park Baptist Church in Amarillo, preaching.

Jeff Moore of Abilene will be music evangelist. Services will be at 11 a.m. and 6 p.m. Sunday, and at noon and 7 p.m. Monday through Wednesday.

ABILENE ASSOCIATION OF CONGREGATIONS

The Abilene Association of Congregations will have its annual meeting at 6:30 p.m. Thursday at the Activities Building of First Christian Church, 1420 N. 3rd.. Dr. Roy Zuefeldt, retired minister of First Central Presbyterian Church, will speak on the formation of the AAC.

Classical music by Dr. Moises Molina of Hardin-Simmons University will entertain guests at this casual event. Cost for the barbecue dinner is $8.

SPECIAL SPEAKER

Stephan Bilak, a native of Kosmeren, Ukraine, will speak at his sponsoring congregation, the Minter Lane Church of Christ, at 6 p.m. Sunday. He and his wife, Reba, will be guests of honor at an ice cream supper following the evening class. The church is located at 2502 Minter Lane.

BROADVIEW FRIEND DAY

Sunday, Oct. 26, is Friend Day at the Abilene Civic Center to recognize friends of Broadview Baptist Church.

The public is invited for refreshments and fellowship from 9:30-10:15 a.m. with services following at 10:30.

Child care will be provided at the Day Nursery of Abilene at 650 Cedar St.

David Cason, pastor, and members will share what it means to have Jesus for a friend.

KOREAN FOOD SALE

The Abilene Korean Church, 602 Palm, has scheduled a Korean food sale to raise a relief fund to help North Koreans who are starving to death. The sale will be held at the church's fellowship hall from 11 a.m.-5 p.m. Saturday. Food to be sold includes Kimchi, Bulgogi, friend rice and egg roll. A dish for adults is $6 and for children is $4.

ALL CONCERT

The choir of Mt. Zion Baptist Church, 520 Stafford Dr., will present a fall concert at 3:30 p.m. Sunday.

Theme will be "Leaning on the Everlasting Arms of Jesus." Refreshments will be served afterward.

REVIVAL SERVICES((mug))

South Side Church of God, 2826 Barrow, will have revival services Sunday through Wednesday with Dr. Eddie Mitchell, Administrative Director of Church on the Rock International. Mitchell is celebrating 28 years in the full time ministry, having ministered in 17 countries and across the U.S.A.

Services Sunday are at 10:45 a.m. and 6 p.m. and at 7 p.m. Monday through Wednesday. The Rev. Danny W. Thompson, pastor, will speak Wednesday.

MINISTER APPRECIATION

Beltway Park Baptist Church at 4009 Beltway South will have new member welcoming and a minsters' appreciation fellowship following morning services on Sunday.

INTERFAITH JOURNEY

An Interfaith Journey continues at the Episcopal Church of the Heavenly Rest, 602 Meander, with a session Wednesday night on Judaism.

Guest speaker for the 6:45 p.m. session will be Rabbi Sherman Stein of Dallas.

The 10-week series explores five major religions. Sessions are held each Wednesday through Nov. 19.
