Local Church Notes

The public is invited to open house at Westminster Presbyterian Church, 4515 S. 14th, Sunday.

People wanting to visit church school classes should meet in the youth and family building at 9:30 a.m. for an overview of the fall classes.

At 11 a.m. Rev. Jim Pitts will lead the celebration of worship with special music provided by the church choir.

All visitors are invited to stay for lunch, after which guests and members will be treated to a short program on "Westminster's Winsome Ways."

Pitts will teach "Personality and the Words of Jesus" at 7 p.m. Sunday evenings. Child care will be provided. Everyone is invited.

MISSION SUNDAY

Our Savior Lutheran Church, 4933 S. 7th, will celebrate its annual Mission Sunday Service at 4 p.m. Sunday. The Rev. Martin Kaufmann, recently installed pastor of the Redeemer Lutheran Church in Cisco will be the speaker.

Morning Bible classes will be at 9:15 a.m. The morning service will be at 10:30 a.m. with Holy Communion celebrated. The choir will sing at both services and there will be a dinner at 5 p.m.

ROSH HASHONAH RESERVATIONS

Reservations are being taken for a catered lunch to be held on Thursday, Oct. 2, at the Temple Mizpah, 849 Chestnut, as part of a three-day observance of Rosh Hashonah, the Jewish New Year.

Rosh Hashonah will be observed on Wednesday, Oct. 1, at 8 p.m.; Thursday, Oct. 2, at 9:30 a.m. and 8 p.m.; and Friday, Oct. 3, at 10 a.m.

Ed Bond of Forth Worth and David Bach of Abilene will be in charge of the services.

The luncheon will be held at noon on Thursday, Oct. 2. Call Lil Anton at 698-8450 to make reservations. Cost is $8.50 for adults and $4.50 for children under age 13.

ANNIVERSARY CELEBRATION

Heritage Baptist Church will celebrate its sixth anniversary Sunday. Special events have been planned. Morning services will be held at 8:30 and 10:50 with a Sunday School concert at 9:45 a.m.

A barbecue will follow the second service. Special guests will be "Highest Call" from Baptist Bible College of Springfield, Mo., performing a concert at 2 p.m.

Heaven's Jubilee, the popular southern gospel quartet, will be at Bible Chapel on the Winters Freeway at Interstate 20 today and Sunday.

They will perform at 8 p.m. today and at 10:30 a.m. and 6:30 p.m. Sunday. GUEST SOLOIST NOTE: NOE' IS THE CORRECT SPELLING Ruth Arauza will be guest soloist at Tiemplo Buenas Nuevas, 1164 Minter Lane, at 11 a.m. Sunday

Pastor Ben Gonzalez invited Arauza to sing a medley of inspirational hymns at the Sunday service. Stephen Moore, pianist, and Noe' Daniel, organist, will accompany her.

PLANNING SESSION

Abilene Association of Congregations will have a planning session to firm up plans for a City-wide Christian Women's Enrichment Day with noted speaker and former Miss America, Shirley Cothran Barret, Ph.D.

The planning session will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday in the home of Suzie Ramsey, 1709 Elmwood. NIGHT OF PRAISE

The worship choir and orchestra of South Side Baptist Church,1425 S. 7th, will present a "Night of Praise" at 6 p.m. Sunday. LIVING STREAM SERVICE

Living Stream Ministries will host a service at the Ramada Inn, 3450 S. Clack, today and Sunday.

Times are 7:30 p.m. today and 9:30 a.m. Sunday. Children are welcome. For more information call 691-9064 or 893-4588.

"God's Eternal Purpose" is the title of the session. George Whittington of Odessa will be guest speaker. The session will include Whittington's message, singing and fellowship.

PANCAKE SUPPER

The United Methodist Men of Aldersgate United Methodist Church will sponsor a pancake supper from 5-6:30 p.m. Friday before the Abilene High School vs. Cooper High school football game.

Cost to eat will be $4 for adults, $2 for children under 12 with a $10 maximum charge per family.

McMurry University will be in the spotlight Sunday at Fairmont United Methodist Church, 1101 Palm, Sunday.

The McMurry Sunday service begins at 10:45 a.m. A local gospel quartet, "Catherine and The Boys," will provide the music. Dr. Pug Parris, professor of physical education at McMurry, will speak.

All McMurry students, faculty and staff present will be given a special welcome and recognition during the services. EVENING SERVICES BEGIN

St. Paul United Methodist Church, N. 5th and Beech, has begun Sunday evening services.

Informal attire, fellowship, contemporary music, occasionally drama and dance and an evening message will be featured in this 7 p.m. service. A coffeehouse fellowship will follow the service.

OUR FATHER'S PLAN

Holy Family Catholic Church, 5410 Buffalo Gap Rd., will begin a weekly scripture study series, "Our Father's Plan," from 6:30-8 p.m. Sunday. The overview of the entire Bible, from Genesis to Revelation is easy to follow yet full of information.

There is no homework, no test. The readings are self-paced.

Scott Hahn, Ph.D., and Jeff Cavins will lead the series. Child care is available. Call 676-9441 for further information.

REVIVAL COMING

A revival meeting will be held next weekend at Ridgemont Baptist Church, 4857 Buffalo Gap Road.

Heaven's Jubilee, a gospel quartet, will lead the the service. Meeting times are 10:45 a.m. and 6:30 p.m. Sunday, Sept 28, and 7 p.m. Monday through Wednesday, Sept. 29 through Oct. 1

SCHULLER BOOK SIGNING

Robert Schuller, founder of the Crystal Cathedral in California, will be in Denton for a book signing on Tuesday.

Schuller will be at the Hastings bookstore at 2305 Colorado Blvd. from 7-9 p.m. to sign copies of his book <I>In Search of Morality.

ST. PAUL HOSTS LADIES NIGHT

St. Paul United Methodist Men will host a ladies night at 7 p.m. Thursday in the St. Paul activities building, 525 Beech.

Cost for the catered dinner is $10. Guest speaker will be Dr. Don Newbury, chancellor of Howard Payne University in Brownwood.
