Letter was inspiring
By LORETTA FULTON Senior Staff Writer
Dale Ogren doesn't know it, but she provided a Moment of Grace
in my life last week.
Ogren, an English professor at Abilene Christian University,
wrote me a letter concerning the Moments of Grace column that
I started in August.
My hope and expectation for the column was that it would stir
people to reflect on every day happenings in their lives and come
to view them as Moments of Grace, times when God places himself
unexpectedly in the middle of things.
Enough of you have responded that I believe the column is serving
its purpose. Ogren confirmed that opinion.
I am both the higher education and religion writer for the
Reporter-News, so Ogren's letter was doubly inspiring. She is
using Moments of Grace as a classroom writing assignment. Her
students had turned in 700-1,000 word essays and she had noticed
"moments of grace embeded in them."
Ogren offered her students extra credit for cutting and polishing
the essays into "a 250-word gem" to submit to the newspaper.
She enclosed the first of the submissions, which will appear on
this page next Saturday.
Ogren's own Moment of Grace is printed today. All the submissions,
as well as yours, are welcome. Take a moment to think about events,
small or large, that you feel were a reflection of God's grace
in your life, and then share it with our readers.
The last sentence of Ogren's letter provided me with my own
Moment of Grace: "I am now a regular reader of the column.
Many thanks for your good work, which is an inspiration and encouragement
to so many."
