Moments of Grace
Ruth L. Bundick lives at Wysteria Place retirement center and
writes about the grace God has shown her in allowing her to live
85 years and still having a purpose for her.
I am sure all of us (senior citizens) have experienced breaking
up housekeeping and having to move. It was so hard to part with
our furniture and give up so many things that meant so much to
us, things that have been collected since we were brides.
Also some of us are not eligible to get a drivers license anymore,
so we were faced with having to sell our car. This time of life
is called the "Golden Years." I do not agree with that
name, but they did not ask me.
Last year I went to the "cemetery working" where
my husband is buried. This is a day when people from far and near
come to care for the graves of friends and loved ones and to see
old friends. I saw two girls that I graduated from high school
with and saw the names of more of my friends on tombstones. They
didn't make it to the "Golden Years."
We do not know why God has granted us so many years, but we
do know that God does not make mistakes. He has a purpose for
us and it could be that He has something else for us to do. I
pray we will not disappoint Him!
When I think that I may be the only Bible someone is reading,
I get scared. I am the first to admit my life is not perfect,
but I know one who lived a perfect life and His name is Jesus
Christ, God's only Son.
Christians have the greatest weapon against sin and despair
and that is prayer. John 21:18 describes people of our age: Truly,
truly, I say to you, when you were younger, you used to gird yourself
and walk wherever you wished; but when you grow old, you will
stretch out your hands, and someone else will gird you and bring
you where you do not wish to go.
This describes us! I did not want to leave my home, but there
comes a time when we are not able to live alone.
I am thankful for homes like Wisteria Place. They are good
to us. We could not ask for more.
There will come a time when we, too, will cross that muddy
river and those of us who have trusted Jesus Christ as Savior
will enter that city where the streets are pure gold, gates of
pearl and a mansion furnished by Jesus waiting for us. We will
have new bodies, Praise the Lord!
In my opinion, this will be our "Golden Years."
