"Youth Explosion '97" today in Rose Park

"Youth Explosion '97, Souled Out For Christ," will take place today in Rose Park.

Basketball and volleyball tournaments will begin at 1 p.m. at the recreation center. From 4-10 p.m. praise and worship services and guest speakers will be on stage.

Superintendent Charles Hundley is scheduled to speak at 5:25 p.m. Various musical groups will perform and food and drinks will be available.

All Abilene young people and parents are invited to attend. The rally is sponsored by Faith Deliverance Community Church.

CAMP MEETING '97

Camp Meeting '97 will be held at the Abilene Civic Center Tuesday through Thursday.

Guest speaker will be the Rev. John Stalls of Madisonville, Ky. He and his wife Linda are district superintendents in Kentucky for the Pentecostal Church of God.

The meeting will feature special music, worship and preaching. Service times are 7 p.m. Tuesday, 10 a.m. and 7 p.m. Wednesday and 10 a.m. Thursday.

About 500 people are expected to attend the Camp Meeting, hosted by the North Texas District of the Pentecostal Church of God.

Special music will be by the singing group Clark and by the Jenkins Sisters and Company.

Clark started its full-time national music ministry in 1993 and has Top 10 recordings being played nationally. In 1994 the group was nominated by the Christian Country Music Association as the New Artist of the Year.

The Jenkins Sisters, Angie and Nella, are joined by Brent Gregg in bringing their ministry to youth. This year they are the Group of the Year named by the Southern Gospel Music Association of Texas.

The Jenkins Sisters and Company will sing Tuesday and Clark will perform Wednesday.

SELF-HELP GROUPS

Two self-help groups are forming at the Neighborhood Family Therapy Clinic, located at Crescent Heights Baptist Church, 1902 N. Mockingbird.

One group is for victims of sexual abuse and the other is a guide to marriage and parenting in blended families.

Deadline to enroll in either group is Friday. Sessions begin Sept. 22. The groups will meet for two hours each Monday evening for 12 weeks. Cost is $15. Call 677-3749 for more information.

The See You At The Pole website is easy to read and has lots of useful information. Promotional items are available including a printable flier to distribute.

A leader's guide, questions to consider, clip art and much more are on the site. Also highlights of the 1996 event are listed as well as a history of the student-led prayer session.

This year's rally will be at 7 a.m. Wednesday when middle school, high school and college students are expected to gather around the campus flagpole for about 45 minutes of prayer.
