ACU professor honored in publishing world

Dr. Gailyn Van Rheenen is one of two ACU professors to be honored in the publishing world.

Van Rheenen, professor of Bible at Abilene Christian University, wrote a textbook titled Missions: Biblical Foundations and Contemporary Strategies, which was one of five finalists for a national Gold Medallion Book Award.

The award was announced at the recent joint meeting of the Evangelical Christian Publishers Association and the Christian Booksellers Association.

Previously announced was ACU graduate Max Lucado's award for his book In the Grip of Grace, which won the Gold Medallion Christian Book of the Year Award.

an Rheenen's introductory text is designed for present and future missionaries to equip them "with an understanding of the theological, cultural, and strategic foundations on which effective missions is based."

At ACU, Van Rheenen will use the textbook in his introduction to world evangelism course.

Van Rheenen's 14 years in East Africa equipped him with true-life examples and insights into mission work that he used in his book.
