ACU women vs. Missouri Western State
-- When: 7 p.m.
-- Where: St. Joseph, Mo.
-- Records: ACU 7-2, MWS 8-3
-- The Matchup: ACU hopes to avenge a 75-71 loss to MWS it
suffered in the semifinals of the south central region tournament
in St. Joseph a year ago.
The Lady Wildcats, idle since an 89-78 win over St. Edward's
on Dec. 16, are ranked third in the south central region and 16th
in the nation in the lastest NCAA Division II poll.
ACU has the top scoring offense in the Lone Star Conference,
averaging 90.8 points per game. Leading the way for the Lady Wildcats
are center Jackie Bucher (18.6) and forward Caroline Omamo (12.2).
The Griffons are led by 5-6 junior guard Becky Reichard, who
averages 21.9 points per game. 5-9 junior Sara Elgin, 6-2 junior
Lakya Miller and 5-8 freshman Annie Heithoff are also averaging
in double digits.
McMurry men vs. Incarnate Word
-- When: 7 p.m.
-- Where: San Antonio
-- Records: McMurry 8-1, Incarnate Word 6-2
-- The Matchup: McMurry University attempts to improve to 9-1
for the first time since the 1962-63 season when the Indians travel
to play the Crusaders.
The Indians have six players scoring in double digits, led
by senior wing Tyerone Washington, who is averaging 20.7 points.
Washington is also pulling down 7.4 rebounds and dishing out 3.9
assists per game.
Sophomore guard DAniel Martinez is fourth in NCAA Division
III in assists, second in steals and is averaging 11.3 points
per contest.
Incarnate Word is currently 6-2 on the year and had a six-game
winning streak snapped by Texas A&M-Kingsville on Dec. 11.
