Pilot-businesswoman Finch faces more legal
woes
SAN ANTONIO (AP) - Millionaire aviator Linda Finch's legal
problems have expanded to encompass her Hill Country farm and
the very plane she flew around the world to trace the doomed 1937
flight path of Amelia Earhart.
Former boyfriend Russell Madden has sued Ms. Finch, saying
he owns half her 300-acre farm because he lent her $200,000 to
help buy it in May 1993. Madden also obtained a lien on her 1935
Electra 10E plane after he lent her money to buy the plane, the
San Antonio Express-News reported Sunday.
The newest woes join legal battles Ms. Finch is fighting on
two other fronts: the promotion of her flight and problems with
nursing homes she owns.
"The issues around these lawsuits and disclosures I feel
only occurred and were generated because of the success of the
project," she said. "If I were not in every newspaper
and (on) television, there would be no lawsuits."
Madden's lawyer, David Hurst of Abilene, said Finch signed
a loan agreement with Madden to borrow the money for the plane.
"It is my understanding that she's not currently in default
on the promissory note," Hurst said.
Ms. Finch lost one round in the lawsuit she filed against the
marketing firm she first hired to promote World Flight '97 when
San Antonio's 4th Court of Appeals struck down as unconstitutional
an order she had won prohibiting the fired company from communicating
with potential flight sponsors.
Ms. Finch also faces a trial over allegations by the Texas
Department of Human Services that one of four nursing homes she
owned was operated under life-threatening conditions. She has
denied the allegations. Send
