Woman sues Houston nightclub over hot dog eating
contest
HOUSTON (AP) - A Louisiana woman is suing a Houston nightclub
because she almost choked to death during the establishment's
hot dog eating contest two years ago.
Victoria Franks Rios of Baton Rouge,La., filed the lawsuit
Monday against Peter's Wildlife nightclub and its owners, Richmond
Club Enterprises.
The lawsuit alleges that Ms. Rios entered the March 26, 1995,
competition to see who could devour a hot dog the fastest.
"Defendants conducted a number of contests at Peter's
in which they invited and encouraged their customers to participate,"
according to the lawsuit, filed by attorney Farley Grissett of
Houston.
"The predictable result is that a contestant attempting
to win the contest will choke on the hot dog," the suit said.
The lawsuit alleges that the hot dog lodged in Ms. Rios' throat
and the prolonged deprivation of oxygen caused her significant
injuries.
The defendants in the lawsuit were unavailable for comment
Monday, the Houston Chronicle reported.
The lawsuit does not elaborate on the circumstances and does
not elaborate on the injuries. It seeks unspecified damages for
pain and suffering, mental anguish, loss of earning capacity,
mental and physical impairment, and medical and mental health
care expenses. Send
