Woman accused of killing son, mutilating another
found innocent
KILLEEN, Texas (AP) - A Fort Hood woman who was accused of
murdering her toddler and sexually mutilating another young son
has been found innocent by reason of insanity.
U.S. District Judge Walter Smith Jr. of Waco agreed with four
experts' reports about Michelle Green's mental condition in making
his ruling Thursday.
Smith ordered Mrs. Green, 30, to undergo another psychiatric
examination and return in 40 days.
At that time, she could be released or be committed indefinitely
to a state or federal facility for treatment, Assistant U.S. Attorney
John Phinizy said.
According to an FBI affidavit, Mrs. Green's sister called military
police Jan. 25, 1996, after she and her husband visited Mrs. Green's
house and discovered the 4-year-old boy naked and bleeding from
the groin area. His penis had been severed.
Mrs. Green's 7-year-old daughter reportedly told them she had
heard screaming upstairs when she came home from school and found
her mother biting off her brother's penis.
When paramedics arrived, they say they found Mrs. Green lying
on top of her 2-year-old son in an upstairs bedroom. Deel Green
was pronounced dead at Darnall Army Community Hospital.
Mrs. Green told doctors at the hospital that she twisted her
son's head to the side until he stopped breathing and attacked
the other boy because she feared her estranged husband would "somehow
sexually assault her sons and make them gay," the affidavit
states.
Deel was asphyxiated, an autopsy concluded. Send
