Selena clothing line in the works
CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas (AP) - A Dallas clothing company is developing
a women's apparel line inspired by slain Tejano star Selena Quintanilla
Perez.
Jerell Inc., a manufacturer of Latin-style clothing, will market
apparel and accessories under a label bearing the late singer's
name, her family said.
"Selena's lifelong dream was to have her clothing designs
available in major department stores throughout the country,"
said the singer's sister, Suzette Quintanilla Arriaga, who oversees
two clothing boutiques Selena founded before she was gunned down
in 1995 by her former fan club president.
The clothing line was announced last week by the Quintanilla
family and Ed Vierling, president of Dallas-based Jerell.
Sandra Salcedo, a designer whose dress and sportswear line
debuted last year in selected department stores, will design the
Selena collection, Vierling said.
The line will be unveiled in New York showrooms by early September
and should be available to all major departments stores by next
spring, he said.
Ms. Salcedo described the upcoming collection as "hot
and hip," but said it would not be modeled after Selena's
signature stagewear - snug spandex pants, rhinestone tops and
shimmering bustiers.
Instead, the collection will depict Selena's sense of style
in everyday and evening wear, Ms. Salcedo said. Separates will
include pants and jeans that are body-hugging, but not constrictive,
as well as skirts and an array of tops.Send a Letter to
